  • The Workmate 400 is a portable workbench from Black and Decker that folds easily, weighing up to 500 pounds. It has a self-contained vise system and can clamp projects vertically or horizontally. 2. Holes in the front and rear jaws of the vise allow tools to be mounted on the worktop. 3. The Workmate can also function as a sawhorse due to its folding legs, which adjust it from a workbench to two different heights. 4. To assemble, first pull the bottom of the legs away from the body, then swing them out and lock them into place. 5. Turn the bench over and press the release latches on both sides of the top until it locks into place. 6. Next, slide the vise guides onto the long vise screws, making sure they fit in the slotted frame on either side of the top. 7. The unthreaded end of each vise screw must protrude from its end and have a small hole through it. 8. Slide the smaller holes onto the unthreaded ends of the vise screws, then insert the vise pins through them to secure the crank handles in place. 9. Use a hammer to ensure the pins are flush with the handles. 10. Press the top blocks into the corresponding holes on both jaws and screw bolts through them into the vise guides. 11. For storage, fold the legs toward the center of the bench, then grasp both latch handles while pushing down the top to secure it in place. 12. To purchase a replacement base frame, socket, axle, stay (left side), stay (right side), grip, crank arm, spring (tension), or bolt, refer to their respective part numbers. WARNING: Read all instructions before using the Workmate 425 work center. Important Precautions * Do not overload with more than 550 pounds. * Avoid unbalanced loads that could cause the work center to tip over. * Never use the work center as a stepladder or standing platform. * Store indoors, avoiding damp locations. Assembly and Usage Guidelines 1. Assemble top blocks to rear jaw by inserting bolts through holes in both components. 2. Ensure legs are fully open for optimal workbench height. 3. Always lock table position to prevent movement during use. 4. Use safety glasses when operating power tools attached to the Workmate 425. Troubleshooting and Support * If you encounter any issues with your Black & Decker product, please call 1-800-54-HOW-TO (544-6986) for assistance. * Have the catalog number, type number, and date code ready when calling for support. * Your feedback is valuable; if you have suggestions or comments, kindly share them. 1.
