How should I prepare the bread before placing it in the toaster?

Spread the outside of the bread slices with butter or a suitable spread. Place the bread slices on the bottom plate buttered side down, add your desired fillings with a 2cm gap around the edges, and place the second slice of bread on top buttered side up. (Page 1)
