Why won't my dishwasher drain and what should I do?

Water not pumping out is typically caused by a clogged drain. If your dishwasher has an air gap, clean it; also check that your kitchen sink is draining properly, and if the dishwasher drains into a garbage disposer, run the disposer clear. A small amount of clean water remaining around the outlet on the tub bottom is normal and keeps the water seal lubricated. (Page 20)
