Why are my clothes coming out with lint or residue, and how can I fix it?

Lint or residue on clothes is commonly caused by incorrect sorting — separate lint producers from lint collectors. Other causes include overloading the washer, detergent not dissolving properly, or incorrect use of fabric softener. To help detergent dissolve, add it as the wash basket fills with water before loading clothes, or try a liquid detergent with warmer water. (Page 16)
