What should I do to prevent electrostatic discharge damage when servicing the computer?

Keep components in electrostatic-safe containers, use nonmagnetic tools, discharge static electricity before touching components, avoid touching pins and circuitry, and handle components minimally. Use a wrist strap connected to a grounded work surface, cover the workstation with static-shielding material, and keep the work area free of nonconductive materials like plastic or Styrofoam.
