What is the proper way to clean the air conditioner?

Turn the power off and unplug the power plug before cleaning. For the grille and case, use water and mild detergent but do not use bleach or harsh abrasives. Check the rear coils on a regular basis and have them professionally steam-cleaned if clogged with dirt or soot. Do not clean the air conditioner with water as it may degrade insulation and cause electric shock.
