How much detergent should I use in the dishwasher?

The amount of detergent depends on soil level and water hardness. For example, with soft water (0–2 grains per U.S. gallon) and normal soil, use 6 tsp (30 mL) in the Main Wash section and 2 tsp (10 mL) in the Pre-Wash section. With hard water (7 grains per U.S. gallon and above) and heavy soil, fill both the Main Wash and Pre-Wash sections completely (9 tsp/45 mL and 7 tsp/35 mL respectively). (Page 11)
