How much detergent should I use in the dishwasher?

The amount depends on water hardness and detergent type. For soft to medium water (0-6 grains per gallon), use 3-9 teaspoons in the Main Wash section depending on soil level. For medium to hard water (7-12 grains per gallon), use 9 teaspoons in the Main Wash section. Do not use less than 1 tablespoon per load, and use only automatic dishwashing detergent—other detergents can produce excessive suds. (Page 12-13)
