Is it safe to change the Control Valve position while the pump is running?
No — you must always switch off the sand filter before changing the Control Valve function. Changing valve positions while the pump is running can damage the Control Valve and may cause personal injury or property damage. Additionally, never operate the sand filter with the Control Valve set to the Closed function, as this will seriously damage the unit. (Page 6)
