How do I use the self-timer on the Canon EOS Rebel T2?

Press the film advance mode button and select the self-timer icon on the LCD panel, then compose your shot and press the shutter button fully to start the timer. The picture will be taken approximately 10 seconds later — the self-timer lamp blinks slowly for the first 8 seconds and quickly for the final 2 seconds. To cancel the self-timer after it starts, press the film advance mode button again. (Page 23)
