How do I install the Diono Radian 3RXT Safe+ rear-facing?

Place the car seat rear-facing in the vehicle back seat. Ensure harness straps are at or just below your child's shoulders, and that top of head must be 1.5 inches below the car seat shell. Use either LATCH/UAS attachment (for children up to 35 lbs) or a combination with the adjustable bottom lowered for larger children. Always use anti-rebound bar when rear-facing. Tighten straps securely by grabbing sides and moving side-to-side and front-to-back until no more than one-inch of movement is possible. (Page 24-26)

2

How do I install the Diono Radian 3RXT Safe+ forward-facing?

After placing car seat in the back seat, use LATCH or vehicle seat belt to attach it securely. For children under 40 lbs without a tether point, place SafeStop between harness and seat frame. Attach tether strap for added stability if available. Tighten straps by pulling out any slack until no movement of more than one-inch occurs when grabbing the sides. Adjust adjustable bottom down if child is over 25 lbs. (Page 37-41)

3

What is SafeStop and how do I install it?

SafeStop is used with forward-facing installations for children between 22–40 lb (10–18 kg). It attaches between the harness straps and seat frame. Remove metal plate from back of seat, thread both harness straps onto metal hook on SafeStop. Ensure harness strings are clear before securing child to car seat. Once child is over 40 lbs, remove SafeStop. (Page 39-41)

4

How do I adjust the headrest?

When using the bottom two sets of slots, position headrest level with top of seat. For top four harness slots, place headrest about level with jaw - one inch abov the shoulders. Adjust by pressing lever on headrest and sliding it up or down until you hear an audible 'click'. (Page 30-31)

5

What is booster mode setup like?

In booster mode for children weighing between 40–120 lb and between 40-57 inches tall, place the child upright in the installation. Adjust headrest to be slightly above shoulders (at least one centimeter). Fit shoulder belt diagonally over car seat shell guide behind headrest and use lap-shoulder system only without adjustable bottom or anti-rebound bar. Seat must fit tightly so harness can be removed for booster usage. (Page 54-59)

6

How do I install the cup holder?

Find the designated mark for the cup holder on either side of the seat cover and insert it into the slot provided. Push down onto the icon to securely engage the cup holder, then twist clockwise for a tight fit. Be careful not to use with hot liquids as they can cause burns. (Page 69-71)

LATCH: One LATCH strap with a single adjuster is located on back of restraint. For rear-facing installation, move LATCH strap into rear-facing belt path after attaching base and anti-rebound bar (see Other section for installation of anti-rebound bar). Discontinue use of lower anchors when rear-facing child reaches 35 lbs. For forward-facing installation, move LATCH strap to

forward-facing belt path (no base, no anti-rebound bar, but adjustable bottom lowered if child over 25 lbs.). Discontinue use of lower anchors when forward-facing child reaches 40 lbs. Always use SafeStop for forward-facing LATCH installations with child 22 - 40 lbs. Lower connectors may be used in booster mode. Tether: Yes, for forward-facing use. Tether must be attached to a vehicle manufacturer’s specified tether anchor point. Other: When restraint is used rear-facing, top of child’s head must be 1.5 inches below car seat shell.

Headrest: When using lowest harness slots, position headrest level with top of the seat. For top 4 harness slots position lower edge of headrest about level with the jaw. To adjust headrest, press lever on headrest and slide up or down. Listen for “click” to confirm headrest is locked.

Lap Belt Cushion: Only use for harnessed forward-facing installations with lap belt only and no top tether available. MUST use 5th harness slot when using the lap belt cushion (diagram 13). To install, remove crotch buckle pad, unclip seat cover and lift up (diagram 14), place lap belt cushion on seat and slide buckle through slot that matches slot position used on seat, then flip down seat cover, slide buckle through, reinstall buckle pad (diagram 15). Crotch buckle with longer strap is available by calling Customer Care.

To unfold, place restraint on its back, unfasten red carry strap from restraint bottom, and rotate bottom until seat clicks and locks into place. Tuck and store red carry strap behind cover.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that car seats be replaced following a MODERATE or SEVERE collision in order to ensure a continued high level of collision protection for child passengers.

Car seats do not automatically need to be replaced following a MINOR collision. NHTSA defines a MINOR collision as ALL of the following:

  • • The vehicle was able to be driven away from the collision site; AND
  • • The vehicle door nearest the car seat was not damaged; AND
  • • No vehicle occupants were injured; AND
  • • There is no visible damage to the car seat; AND
  • • The airbags (if present) did not deploy.
  • NEVER use a car seat that has been involved in a MODERATE or SEVERE collision.

############# VEHICLE SEATING LOCATIONS VEHICLE SEATING LOCATIONS

The safest seating position is one that works best for your specific child restraint, family and vehicle model.

    ################ !

Before installing this child restraint you must determine the method of installation and the best vehicle seating position for that method. This child restraint can be installed either using LATCH/UAS or the Vehicle Seat Belt. DO NOT install using both methods at the same time.

When determining whether the child restraint can be used with vehicle LATCH/UAS anchors in the rear center seating position, it is critical that you refer to your vehicle owner’s instruction book. If the child restraint does not install best in the rear center seating location, it is recommended to move to one of the outboard seating positions.

INSTALL CHILD RESTRAINT CORRECTLY NEVER PLACE THIS CHILD RESTRAINT REAR-FACING IN A VEHICLE SEATING LOCATION WITH AN ACTIVE FRONTAL AIR BAG. If the airbag inflates, it can cause

serious injury or death to your child. For vehicles with side air bags, refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for information on your child restraint installation.

The following types of vehicle belts CANNOT BE USED with your child restraint. If any of the belt types listed below are in the chosen seating position, you MUST choose another seating position or use LATCH/UAS if available. Please refer to your vehicle owner's manual for specific information about seat belts and their use with child restraints.

    ################# WHAT IS LATCH/UAS?

Most vehicles manufactured after September 1, 2002 are equipped with: U.S.: LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) Canada: UAS (Universal Anchorage System)

  • Check your vehicle owner’s instruction manual to determine LATCH/UAS lower anchor compatible seating positions. Some vehicles owner’s manuals use the term “ISOFIX” instead; LATCH/UAS can also be used in vehicle seating positions that are equipped with ISOFIX. Look for the LATCH/UAS symbol that may be visible by the crease of the rear seats.

    ############# CHANGING HARNESS POSITION

    ############# CHANGING HARNESS POSITION

  • 5. Rotate metal retainer and insert it up through the shell and pad. From the top of the car seat, pull the buckle strap out.
  • Page 40

  • 6. Insert metal retainer in the new buckle slot position. Reach underneath the car seat and pull the metal retainer through.
  • 1. Loosen the harness straps. Push down on the harness adjuster while pulling out on the harness straps at the chest clip. Unbuckle the chest clip. Detach the buckle tongues from the center buckle.
  • 2. Detach harness straps from metal plate on back of seat. Pull each harness through to the front of the seat. Re-locate each harness to the correct slot determined, push through to the back of the seat taking care to keep each harness strap flat. Resecure the harness straps to the metal plate. Check to ensure harness loops are properly secured to the metal plate.
  • 3. Check the center buckle position. When rearfacing, the correct slot is the one that is closest to your child without being underneath your child. When forward-facing, children 22–30 lb (10–13.6 kg) MUST use the middle buckle slot only. Children above 30 lb (13.6 kg) MUST use the forward most buckle slot only.
  • 4. To adjust center buckle strap — Remove all lower seat cover clips. Reach into the rear-facing belt path. You will feel the buckle strap metal retainer.
  • SECURING YOUR CHILD

  • 1. Pull up on center buckle strap to make sure it is secured.
  • 2. Pull all the slack out from around the waist. Pull up on the harness strap while pushing the chest clip down. Do this to both sides.
  • 3. Tighten the harness by pulling the harness adjustment strap. When you are not able to pinch any of the harness webbing at your child’s shoulder, the harness is tight enough. A snug harness should not allow any slack. It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging. It does not press on the child’s flesh or push the child’s body into an unnatural position.
  • 4. Buckle the chest clip. You will hear a “click” when the chest clip is securely buckled.
  • 5. Place the chest clip at armpit level.
