Common Questions
19 totalHow do I clean a carpet stain using the Spot Scrubber?
Start by vacuuming up as much of the spill as possible, then spray the cleaning solution onto the spot and allow it to penetrate for about 2 minutes. Switch the cleaning mode selector to 'scrub' and use the rotating brush to agitate the area in a steady, forward and backward motion. Finally, return the cleaning mode selector to 'vacuum' to remove any remaining moisture. (Page 2)
When should I empty the dirty water tank?
Empty the dirty water tank when the dirty water reaches the 'FULL' line or when the float shuts off airflow, which is indicated by a change in pitch of the motor and reduced suction. You will typically need to empty the dirty water tank once or twice with each fill-up of the clean solution reservoir. Failure to empty it regularly may result in poor dirty water pickup. (Page 2)
How do I safely empty and clean the dirty water tank?
Always unplug the cleaner before servicing to reduce the risk of injury from moving parts. Grasp the sides of the tank, push the latch to release it, and rock the tank forward out of its base. Unscrew the drain cap and empty the dirty water into a sink or other suitable container. (Page 2)
Can I use the Spot Scrubber on any type of upholstery?
Only use the Spot Scrubber on upholstery or fabric marked as 'W' (wet clean) or 'SMI' (solvent/dry or wet clean). Do NOT use it on upholstery or fabric marked as '-S' (solvent/dry clean only). If the upholstery is not marked with a cleaning code, seek professional assistance. (Page 2)
What do I do if there is a change in motor pitch indicating full dirty water collection?
Change in motor pitch signaling a full dirty water collection means you need to empty the tank as soon as possible to maintain proper functioning of the cleaner.
How do I test for color fastness before cleaning?
Test for color fastness by dampening a white cloth with Dirt Devil cleaning solution and gently rubbing it over the area in question before proceeding with full clean-up.

Don't walk on the carpet until it's dry, but if you must, place white towels underfoot. 3. If the carpet is still damp when furniture needs to be moved back into the room, use plastic or foil underneath to prevent staining. To install the dirty water tank, insert it into the base of the cleaner and push down until it latches (refer to Diagram 7). You'll need to empty the dirty water tank once or twice with each fill-up of the clean solution reservoir. Failure to do so may result in poor dirty water pickup. Important: Don't store the cleaner with solution in the reservoir or dirty water in the dirty water tank, as mineral deposits and mildew can form, affecting the Spot Scrubbet's performance. To store the cleaner, flip up the cord wrap located on top of the cleaner just below the solution trigger. Then, wrap the cord around the cleaner using the cord wrap (refer to Diagram 8). Important: Do not store the Spot Scrubbet in a garage or area where it could freeze.
