Never entirely cover a shelf with aluminum foil, as this will disturb heat circulation and result in poor baking. A smaller sheet of foil may be placed on a lower shelf several inches below the food to catch spillovers, and slits should be cut in the foil. If lining the broiler pan and grid, the foil must be molded tightly to the grid with slits cut just like the grid. (Page 8)
