Why won't my dishwasher drain properly?

The most likely causes are a clogged air gap, a clogged kitchen sink drain, or a garbage disposal that needs to be run clear. If you have an air gap, clean it by removing the chrome cover, unscrewing the plastic cap, and cleaning it with a toothpick.
