How do I safely add a forgotten dish after the cycle has started?

Push the door latch to the left, wait for the water to calm, then open the door — be aware that steam may rise from the dishwasher. Add the forgotten dish, then close the door and push the latch to the far right to resume the cycle. A forgotten dish can be added any time before the main wash begins. (Page 7)
