How do I load plastic items safely in my dishwasher?

Only wash plastic items marked 'dishwasher safe' or the equivalent. Load light plastic items in the top rack so they will not become dislodged and drop to the bottom of the dishwasher where they might contact the heating unit and be damaged. Make sure small plastic items are lodged tightly so they cannot fall.
