Why are my clothes coming out gray or yellowed?

Grayed or yellowed clothes are typically caused by not using enough detergent, hard water, water that is not hot enough, an overloaded washer, or dye transfer from other garments. To correct this, use more detergent especially with larger loads, ensure the water heater is delivering water at 120°F–140°F (48°C–60°C), use a water conditioner if you have hard water, and sort clothes by color.
