Why are my clothes coming out with lint or residue on them?

Lint on clothes is commonly caused by washing too long, detergent not dissolving properly, or overloading the washer. To fix this, separate lint producers from lint collectors, add detergent as the wash basket fills with water before loading clothes, and make sure clothes are loaded no higher than the top row of holes in the washer tub.
