What should I do before using my refrigerator's icemaker for the first time?

Make sure the icemaker feeler arm is in the STOP (up) position if you use the refrigerator before the water connection is made. Once water supply is connected, move the feeler arm to the ON (down) position. Depress the water dispenser cradle for about two minutes to remove trapped air and fill the water reservoir. Allow about 24 hours for the freezer to cool to the proper ice-making temperature. Throw away the first few batches of ice cubes (16 or 24 cubes) to flush away impurities, and discard the first six glassfuls of water in the kitchen sink to eliminate any plastic taste from the water reservoir.
