What is LATCH and how does it work?

LATCH consists of lower anchor bars and a tether anchor bar that are built into your vehicle, along with connecting hooks built into the car seat. Lower anchors are used INSTEAD of the vehicle's seat belt to secure the car seat, while the tether is used IN ADDITION to the lower anchors or vehicle's seat belt to secure a forward-facing car seat.
