What type of batteries does the backup system require, and what do they power?

The battery backup requires 4 x AA 1.5V long-life alkaline batteries — do not use rechargeable batteries or mix old and new ones. The batteries power the IntelliCold® Controller only and will not keep the refrigerator cold during a mains power failure; however, if a digital lock is fitted, the batteries also power the lock mechanism (without them the door cannot be opened during a power failure unless you have the optional master key).
