What should I do if the air conditioner doesn't cool or heat effectively?

Check if the air filter is dirty and clean it if necessary (see air filter cleaning instructions on pages 21-22). Also verify that the temperature has been set correctly and that the indoor unit's air inlet or outlet vents are not obstructed.
