How do I prepare the washing machine if it will be stored or used in freezing temperatures?

If the washer is stored where freezing may occur, turn off the water supply tap, disconnect and drain the hoses, then add 1 gallon (3.8L) of nontoxic recreational vehicle (RV) antifreeze into an empty wash drum. Set the spin cycle and let the washer spin for 1 minute to drain out all water, then unplug the power cord, dry the drum interior, and store the washer in an upright position. After storage, run an empty washer through a complete cycle with detergent (no wash load) to remove the antifreeze.
