Why are my glasses cloudy or spotted after washing?

Cloudiness can be caused by hard water deposits or etching. To determine which, soak the item in white vinegar for approximately 5 minutes—if the cloudiness is removable, the problem is hard water and you should adjust your detergent amount to match water hardness. If cloudiness is not removable, it is permanent etching caused by water that is too hot, using too much detergent, or prewashing.
