Why does the passenger airbag status indicator show 'ON' when I install a child restraint in the front seat?

If a child restraint is installed and the ON indicator is lit, turn the vehicle off, remove the child restraint, and reinstall it following the manufacturer's directions. Check that the vehicle's seatback is not pressing the child restraint into the seat cushion, and that the restraint is not trapped under the head restraint, and remove any extra material such as blankets or seat covers from the seat. If the ON indicator remains lit after reinstalling, secure the child in a rear seat and consult your dealer. (Page 59)
