How do I measure my heart rate while using the treadmill?

Step onto the foot rails and place your hands on the metal contacts on the handrail, with your palms resting on the upper contacts and your fingers touching the lower contacts — avoid moving your hands. When your pulse is detected, the Heart Rate indicator will flash, three dashes will appear in the main display, and then your heart rate will be shown. For the most accurate reading, continue holding the contacts for about 15 seconds. Note that the pulse sensor is not a medical device and is intended only as an exercise aid for determining heart rate trends in general. (Page 12)
