28 totalWhat should I do if the upper thread tension is too loose?
If the upper tension is too loose, loops will appear on the back of the fabric. Increase the tension by turning the upper tension-control dial to a higher number. If the upper thread was incorrectly threaded, the thread may appear too loose, so rethread the upper thread following the upper threading instructions. (Page 1)
How do I sew thin or delicate fabrics on the XH2177-001?
When sewing thin fabrics, the stitching may become misaligned or the fabric may not feed correctly. To fix this, place thin paper or stabilizer material under the fabric and sew it together with the fabric, then tear off any excess paper when finished. (Page 1)
How do I change the sewing direction mid-project on the XH2177-001?
Stop the machine with the needle in the fabric at the point where you want to change direction, and then raise the presser foot lever. Using the needle as a pivot, turn the fabric, lower the presser foot lever, and then continue sewing. (Page 1)
What safety precautions should I follow when using the foot controller?
Do not turn on the machine while pressing down the foot controller, as the machine may start unexpectedly and cause personal injury or damage. Do not store objects on the foot controller, and do not allow pieces of cloth and dust to build up on it, as this could cause a fire or electric shock. Press the foot controller down to start sewing and take your foot off to stop. (Page 1)
How do I use the stitch length dial, and what do the settings mean?
The numbers marked on the stitch length dial represent the stitch length in millimeters — the higher the number, the longer the stitch. With the '0' setting, material is not fed, which is used when sewing a button. The 'F' to '1' range is for making a satin stitch (closed zigzag stitch), used for buttonholes and decorative stitches, and the exact position should be tested on a scrap piece of fabric first. (Page 1)
How do I replace the needle on the XH2177-001?
Always turn off the machine before changing the needle to prevent injury if the foot controller is accidentally pressed. Turn the needle clamp screw counterclockwise to loosen it, then insert the new needle with the flat side toward the back of the machine until it touches the stopper. Tighten the needle clamp screw with a screwdriver, and place fabric or paper under the presser foot beforehand to prevent the needle from falling into the needle plate hole. (Page 1)

Caution
● ●Always turn off the machine before you change the needle. Otherwise, injuries may occur if the foot controller is accidentally pressed and the machine starts sewing. ● ●Only use sewing machine needles for home use. Other needles may bend or break and cause injury. ● ●Never sew with a bent needle. A bent needle will easily break and cause injury. Replacing the needle■ ■Checking the needle Slower Faster 1 2 3Caution●
●Make sure you insert the needle until it touches the stopper, and securely tighten the needle clamp screw with a screwdriver, otherwise the needle may break or the machine may be damaged.Caution
● ●Before replacing the needle, place fabric or paper under the presser foot to prevent the needle from falling into the hole in the needle plate. Parallel space Level surface Turn the screw counterclockwise. With the flat side of the needle toward the back of the machine, insert the needle until touching this stopper. Tighten the needle clamp screw. Note ● ●Do not use excessive force when loosening or tightening the needle clamp screw.Caution
● ●Always turn off the machine before you change the presser foot. If you leave the power on and step on the controller, the machine will start and you may be injured. ● ●Always use the correct presser foot for the stitch pattern you have chosen. If you use the wrong presser foot, the needle may strike the presser foot and bend or break, and may cause injury. ● ●Only use presser feet that have been designed to be used with this machine. Using any other presser foot may cause accident or injury. If the fabric does not fit easily under the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever even higher to bring the presser foot to its highest position. Sewing thick fabricsCaution
If fabric more than 6 mm (15/64 inch) thick is sewn or if the fabric is pushed with too much force, the needle may bend or break. Mark on the wheel points up to raise the needle.■ ■Presser foot installation orientationCaution
● ●If the presser foot is not installed with the correct orientation, the needle may strike the presser foot, which may bend or break the needle and cause injury.Caution●
●If the stitches are bunched together, lengthen the stitch length and continue sewing. Do not continue sewing without lengthening the stitch length, otherwise the needle may break and cause injury.Caution
● ●After adjusting the stitch width, slowly turn the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise) and check that the needle does not touch the presser foot. If the needle hits the presser foot, the needle may bend or break. ● ●If the stitches are bunched together, increase the stitch length. Continuing to sew with the stitches bunched together may result in the needle bending or breaking. Note● ●If the bobbin thread was incorrectly threaded, the upper thread may be too tight. In this case, refer to “1 Lower threading” on the back side to rethread the bobbin thread. In this case, refer to “2 Upper threading” on the back side and rethread the upper thread. Surface of fabric■ ■Upper tension is too loose Loops appear on the back of the fabric. Loops appear on back of fabric The tension of the thread will affect the quality of your stitches. You may need to adjust it when you change fabric or thread. We recommend that you do a test sample on scrap of a fabric before you start to sew. Depending on the selected stitch, you may need to adjust the stitch length for best results. The numbers marked on the stitch length dial represent the stitch length in millimeters (mm) (1/25 inch). THE HIGHER THE NUMBER, THE LONGER THE STITCH. With the “0” setting, material is not fed. This is used when sewing a button. The “F”-“1” range is for making a satin stitch (closed zigzag stitch), which is used for making buttonholes and decorative stitches. The position needed for making the satin stitch varies according to the material and thread being used. To determine the exact dial position, first test the stitch and length settings on a scrap piece of fabric to observe the feeding of the material. Raise the needle by turning the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise) so that the mark on the wheel points up. The numbers marked on the dial represent the stitch width. When the Straight or Triple Stretch Stitch is selected, the needle position can be changed from left to right by adjusting the stitch width dial. This snaps in to the shank. Press the black button at the back of the presser foot holder to release the presser foot. Install the twin needle in the same way. 9 For repair or adjustment:Save These Instructions
