What should I do before placing documents into the scanner?

Before placing documents, check to make sure they do not contain paper clips, staples, or other small metal objects, as these may cause fire, electrical shock, damage, paper jams, or scanner malfunction. Always smooth out any folds or curls in documents before placing them into the feeder, as a curled leading edge may cause a paper jam. (Page 28)
