What causes cloudiness on glassware and how can I prevent it?

Cloudiness on glassware is called etching and is caused by a combination of soft water and too much detergent, or water temperature exceeding 150°F, and it is permanent. To prevent etching, use less detergent if you have soft water, wash glassware in the shortest cycle that will get them clean, and lower your water heater temperature if it exceeds 150°F. (Page 23)
