How do I clean the air gap?

The air gap is a plumbing device that protects your dishwasher against water backing up if a drain clogs. It is not part of the dishwasher warranty. With most types, turn off the dishwasher, then lift off the chrome cover. Unscrew the plastic cap and check for any buildup of grit. A toothpick makes cleaning easy. Check it at least once a month.
