How do I perform a backwash on the sand filter?

Turn off the pump, depress the 6-way valve handle and turn it to the BACKWASH position. Switch on the pump and allow water to circulate backward through the sand media to the waste/drain outlet until the water runs clear. This removes impurities and dirty sand particles from the filter media.
