How should I prepare the washer if I'm going on vacation or storing it during freezing weather?

If leaving the washer unused for an extended period, unplug it, turn off the water supply to avoid flooding from pressure surges, and leave the door slightly open for ventilation. To winterize the washer in freezing conditions, put 1 quart (1 L) of R.V.-type antifreeze in the drum, run a Drain/Spin cycle, unplug the washer, shut off both water faucets, and disconnect and drain the inlet hoses. When resuming use, reconnect hoses, turn on the faucets, plug in the washer, and run a Quick Wash cycle with the manufacturer's recommended amount of HE detergent to clean the washer and remove any antifreeze.
