How should I load knives and silverware safely in the dishwasher?

Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the risk of cut-type injuries, while spoons should be placed in the basket with handles down. Mix knives, forks, and spoons together so they don't nest, and distribute them evenly in the silverware basket. Small plastic items such as measuring spoons should go in the bottom of the silverware basket with silverware placed on top. (Page 15)
