What should I do if my water heater hasn't been used for two weeks or more?

If hot water has not been used for two weeks or more, turn on all hot water faucets and allow them to run for several minutes before using the dishwasher. This allows any built-up hydrogen gas to escape, as hydrogen gas can be explosive under certain conditions. Do not smoke or use an open flame during this process. (Page 5)
